Tampico

08/14/09

Tampico: 215 Delaware St, Leavenworth KS

Right off the bat this was my favorite spot that we had been to so far. It's nice when beer is only $3.25/bottle! We are mexican restaurant enthusiasts so it's hard to impress me in this department. However, they were able to do it. To start we were offered a choice between green (verde) and red (spicy) salsa, so naturally we tried both. We recommend trying them both as well, you won't be disappointed. Their white queso was also pretty tasty!

Main Courses for the evening were: Pollo a la crema with green rice (AMAZING); Carne Asada with green rice (Fantastic); Chicken Fajita with red rice (just OK, nothing special, black beans were dry and regretted playing it safe); Pick 4 - 3 enchilada beef, chicken, cheese, fried beef taco (pretty good, would definitely go back).

Up until this point Tampico was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ until we tried to order another round of beers at exactly 9pm and we got the knife. Which downgraded them to a ⭐️⭐️⭐️. Side note, a large party at a table next to us had just gotten their dinner served to them, so we weren't the only people at the restaurant keeping them open. Besides that we had no complaints, food was really good and restaurant was clean with friendly staff.

Metropolitan Steakhouse

09/11/2019

Metropolitan Steakhouse: 1501 Metropolitan Ave, Leavenworth KS

We took a few weeks off but are back in action! This was a nice clean restaurant, friendly staff, and lots of tables to help with quick seating. Bonus: $3 Beer

Apps: Spicy Corn Nuggets, Loaded Tator Tots - Yum! Nuggets had just the right amount of kick to them.

Mains: Fried Chicken: it was delicious, mashed tators and gravy was cold though; Rachel (turkey, swiss, coleslaw, marble rye): Good, could have used a little more slaw but it was good and would order it again; Chicken Fried Steak: good! but that mashed tators were terrible, however the corn on the cob was the best part!; Holland (hamburger steak with grilled onions and brown gravy): gravy and onions were delicious, the corn on the cob was good, the meat patty and mashed tators were just okay - they were both definitely frozen.

Side note: there is a large back deck area that would be great to eat on, unfortunately our men dates didn't want to partake in that. Also rumor has it that sometimes you can go catch a band  playing out there too. I'd definitely go back for some food, beer and entertainment!

TenPenny: 529 Cherokee St, Leavenworth KS

This one is a regular for us so we’ve been excited to hit it up again. Bathrooms are always clean, staff is friendly, and food is always good!

Apps: Loaded Tator Skins, Basket o’ Chips: Delicious!

Mains: All-American Burger: seriously the best burger you can get, and on Wednesdays you get the 8oz for $5!; Teriyaki Steak Kabobs with rice, Teriyaki on the side: very good however was a little rare; Chicken Fried Steak: he had actually ordered the chicken but ended up getting the steak and wasn’t mad about it at all! Dinner was pretty dang good, including the beans; Grilled Center Cut Pork Chops: his first comment was “oh damn, these green beans are amazing!” Ate everything off his plate and rated it all delicious.

Island Spice Jamaican Restaurant

08/21/2019

Island Spice Jamaican Restaurant: 325 Delaware St, Leavenworth KS

Finally, stepping out of the box and making the men try something new! Most important things to mention, beer was only $3 and bathrooms were extremely clean. Also the owner is there cooking and running the show, she is amazing. Extremely friendly and makes the experience well worth your while.

Apps: jerk chicken wings; jamaican festivals - all soooo good!

Mains: Kingston Fried Chicken, med: 100% satisfied with the fried chicken but had salted the sides. Left feeling not full. Cod Po Boy: fish was bland and had too much breading (he stated, "not a Culvers") - side note: this particular husband really wanted the fish fillet that was on the menu, however a fillet isn't offered any longer you have to order the entire fish. Curried goat, medium: Lots of bone but the flavor was amazing, brought a lot home and had a full meal for lunch the next day. Jerk Chicken, large size: Chicken was good, rice and beans needed more flavor but not bad, had enough on his plate to bring some home.

Ratings: Owner ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️; Venue ⭐️⭐️⭐️; Restaurant was pretty dang hot, thank goodness for fans. Nice deck out back that on a cooler day would be nice to sit out there for dinner.

When eating Jamaican go all out and try the Jamaican beer! Yum!

Harbor Lights Coffeehouse

9/19/2019

Harbor Lights: 316 Shawnee St, Leavenworth KS

This was such a cute coffeehouse with just the right combination of coffee and fall scents. There is a large menu to choose from that includes all day long breakfast, soups, salads, sandwiches, paninis, wraps, and an excellent dessert selection. Add to that a wide variety of gourmet coffee and Italian soda.

Mains: Southwestern Panini: “all the way for me”; Chicken Salad Wrap: wonderful, definitely hit the spot!

This would be a great place to go read a book or take a laptop and work on a paper. If you want to grab lunch with a friend but have kids to tote along with you??? This is a good place! They have kids meals and shelves full of board games for the kids to play!

June's Cottage

8/8/2019

June's Northland Restaurant & Banquet Facility : 614 Pottawatomie St, Leavenworth

The week before school was back in session we girls snuck out without the chitlins and headed on over to June's for a lunch date.  The menu was impressive and food was amazing!  We could go on and on about how good our meals were. The restaurant is nicely decorated with military decor and a really lovely fountain in the front. The staff was very friendly and June came to visit with us several times during our meal.

Appetizers: Pot stickers (we were so hungry we never got a picture of those!)
Main Course: Pad Thai; Chicken Bulgogi with kimchi and tofu

This place is open for lunch, Sunday brunch, catering, and you can host events in there banquet area. Definitely worth.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It's a must! And if you come for lunch make sure to head towards downtown Leavenworth and enjoy the shops, we had a great day!

Bailey’s

7/31/19

Wednesday nights are date nights. This was the week we decided that it was time to step out of the box and eat our way through the town of Leavenworth, KS. With a little google searching we came up with a list of 35 restaurants to try. Our rules: we’re no chain bangers, sorry Mc’D’s; no Chinese, sorry King House; and dinner must serve beer, sorry not sorry.

First up: Baileys: 312 N 2nd St, Leavenworth KS

We really loved this place. Nice little restaurant, all three owners were there and very social with guests. Service was excellent, and food was delicious!  We enjoyed the Pub Nachos and Fried Shrooms as appetizers,  yum! Main courses were: salmon, shephards pie, artichoke stuffed chicken, and a pubwich. Meals were superb! Cabbage was delicious! Even as leftovers the next day, you can’t go wrong.

So around the time we were licking our plates it was decided that we should write a blog about this adventure. And oh yeah, if you’re writing a “food” blog you probably should include pictures of the food. So we promise that we’ll do better next time! Also around this time the owner must have picked up on how cool of people we are because he brought over a round of bourbon shots on the house. These tasted a bit like Christmas.

Final review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We’ll go back!
